Thanks Chris this particular surface pro is model 1514 running windows 10. Example, you cant take a Surface Pro 4 keyboard and use on the original Surface Pro. Which Surface Pro series do you have and which keyboard are you trying to use? Not all the keyboards are compatible with each other all of the Surface Pro devices, which is why it works on your wife's SP3.
